The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the death of a soldier after a violent clash with a special constabulary officer at Agyaragu market in Lafia Local Government Area on Sunday.
The altercation reportedly began as a dispute between the two men, both of whom were injured.
According to Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ramhan Nansel, the soldier, who was on leave from his post in Borno State, allegedly attacked the constabulary officer with a knife.
The constable then managed to gain control of the weapon and stabbed the soldier in return. Both were taken to the hospital, where the soldier was pronounced dead during treatment.
Following the incident, some of the soldier’s relatives reportedly attempted to storm the local police station in retaliation.
Officers on duty managed to repel the attack, but two people were killed in the confrontation, and two others were hospitalized with injuries.
DSP Nansel stated that calm has been restored in Agyaragu after the Commissioner of Police, CP Shehu Umar Nadada, visited the scene to assess the situation.
Additionally, the police have launched a search for individuals involved in further attacks on the police station.
